WHOLE WHEAT AND WHOLE GRAINS
Why they matter:
Whole grains contain all parts of the plant seed – and those parts work together to deliver the best nutrition. Eating whole grains reduces the risk of heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes and obesity. Not bad for a little seed!
Menu highlights: Whole wheat bread, whole grain spaghetti, whole grain brown rice, whole grain breading for meat and fish.
Coming soon: Whole grain tortillas. We are also exploring new whole grains like quinoa and oats

 

spinachDARK GREEN LEAFY VEGETABLES
Why they matter: Green leafy vegetables are packed with nutrition. They are high in fiber, rich in folic acid, vitamin C and K, iron, calcium, potassium and magnesium, just to name a few. They even contain substances that remove free radicals from the body, reducing the risk of many types of cancer.
Menu highlights: Chopped spinach in Chicken Florentine, Pizza Pockets and Black Bean/Squash Soup.

Organic Raw Dry Black Beans in a Spoon

BLACK BEANS
Why they matter: All beans are exceptionally healthy, filled with protein and fiber. But it’s the color coat on black beans that makes them a little different. They contain flavonoids, which have great antioxidant potential and help protect our bodies from disease.
Menu highlights: Chilito Wrap, Black Bean/Squash soup.

Applesauce with cinnamonREDUCED SUGAR
Why it matters: Kids today are consuming far more sugar than their bodies need. This extra sugar is linked to concerns ranging from heart disease to diabetes to obesity.
Menu highlights: We have reduced the amount of sugar found in our recipes, using unsweetened applesauce and other canned fruits packed in either its own juice or extra light syrup.
